Research and development on the new way to recycling aluminum waste without casting.
My name is Sorawut Srichana now I am in my first year of Ph.D. program in Advanced Engineering program at the University of Toyama. My research is mainly focused on aluminum recycling. Because of nowadays the method in the recycling of the aluminum waste is using the melting method which consumes high energy, so I am researching on how to recycling aluminum waste without casting process.
Aluminum is used today in a variety of products such as automobiles, window frames compared to iron and copper aluminum has a lighter weight, more rust resistance and excellent recyclability. But today the casting process is the main method to recycling aluminum which somehow reduce the quality of the products and involving on the high energy consuming. Aluminum (Al) is highly recyclable, and the energy required to produce recycled ingots is estimated to be about 3~5% of that required to produce new ingots. A method based on the extrusion process of aluminum scrap is the promising way on how to recycling aluminum waste. But the main issue is that the product from these recycled billet is the defect (internal and external). So my research is focused on how to improve the mechanical properties and appearance of the extruded products as well.
